The Boston Globe reports that, in order to get around the partial-birth abortion ban recently upheld by the Supreme Court, some doctors are resorting to lethal injection to abort unborn children during the later stages of pregnancy.

Washington Post-ABC News poll results (scroll down to #44), July 23, 2007

LifeNews.com reports:

“A new Washington Post-ABC News poll finds that a majority of Americans backed the Supreme Court's decision earlier this year to uphold a national ban on partial-birth abortions. The poll is consistent with other surveys showing Americans strongly opposing the gruesome abortion procedure.”

Some pro-lifers have been rather pessimistic about the benefits of the recent Supreme Court decision upholding the federal partial-birth abortion ban.  This article at the Center Blog (which links to other helpful resources) should bring great encouragement to pro-lifers.  Even using conservative estimates, it seems that since the Court’s decision there have been “582 averted partial-birth abortions and NO women harmed.”  Not only are unborn children being saved from a grizzly death, but because the ban highlights the humanity of the unborn the pro-abortion cause is also losing ground.

Louisiana has become the first state to ban the gory and medically unnecessary partial-birth abortion procedure.  It is encouraging to see a state legislature emboldened after the recent Supreme Court ruling upholding the constitutionality of partial-birth abortion bans.  "This places a statute in law that gives Louisiana the right to prosecute and not wait on a federal prosecutor," said the state senator who sponsored the ban.  Hopefully more states will follow Louisiana’s example and help cultivate a “culture of life” across the country.

While the recent Supreme Court partial birth abortion ruling was not a total reversal of Roe vs. Wade, it was an important step in the right direction for the pro-life cause.  This LifeNews column seeks to defend the ruling from pro-lifers upset with its limits.

It appears that some national and state pro-life leaders didn't share Dr. James Dobson's pleasure with the recent Supreme Court ruling upholding the Partial Birth Abortion Ban. In fact they took out a full-page ad in Colorado Springs' The Gazette calling for him to "repent" for his statements claiming the ban will protect children.

Hmmm...

The recent Supreme Court decision upholding the partial-birth abortion ban has raised some eyebrows for what some of the justices cited in the majority opinion. For over a decade conservatives have been passing legislation that "chips away" at Roe on both the federal and state level by noting how abortion affects... women, and the New York Times is paying attention! Read their analysis.

The Supreme Court, in a 5 - 4 ruling, recently upheld the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban of 2003.  This is encouraging news for the pro-life movement though much more progress must be made.  Though this ruling is just a "step in the right direction" pro-lifers should be encouraged to continue the fight for life.  For a news story on the ruling click here.
