**UPDATES**
UPDATE (4:30pm): In a surprise upset
Mike
Huckabee wins the West Virginia caucuses.
Mitt Romney had been expected to win, and did win on the first ballot,
but lost on the second round when Huckabee surged to gain more than the 50%
needed to win. The Romney campaign is alleging
a “backroom deal” that caused McCain supporters to choose Huckabee on the second ballot.
Stay
tuned for more updates.
UPDATE (8:05pm): We’ll I arrived at
an “undisclosed” location and the conservative supporters seem evenly split
between Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney.
Looks
like Obama has won Georgia by 10 points while the Republican race is too close
to call between McCain and Huckabee. Full
Georgia results here.
UPDATE (8:15pm): Race42008 has some exit poll results
up for many of the Super Tuesday states.
In
other news, the pizza just showed up. I’ll
be back later.
UPDATE (9:00pm): Politico has a
great poll results resource.
UPDATE (10:00pm): My internet was down for a while but now I'm back. We're expecting a new batch of poll results at 10:00. Sean Hannity says it looks like the conservative vote is getting split between Huckabee and Romney.
UPDATE (10:15pm): Here are some
other results (as declared by Politico):
AL Huckabee Obama
AR Huckabee Obama
CT McCain
DE McCain Obama
GA Obama
IL McCain Obama
MA Romney Clinton
NJ McCain Clinton
NY McCain Clinton
OK Clinton
TN Clinton
Note:
In the Republican side, McCain and Huckabee look to be having a good night
(Huckabee just indicated in a speech that he intends to continue his
campaign). However, the Western states (CA,
CO, UT, and even McCain’s home state of AZ) could be strong for Romney. I’m listening to Newt Gingrich on a
conference call and he does not think the Republican nomination will be
conclusively determined tonight.
UPDATE (10:55pm): Romney just gave a
speech and said he was going to “take it all the way to the convention. He seems to be taking Minnesota and Montana
and definitely seems to be hoping for a good performance in the West to counterbalance
the wins of McCain and Huckabee in the East (except for Mass.) and South.
Fox
just declared Tennessee for Huckabee and Arizona for McCain. McCain definitely seems to have done the best
tonight (somewhat as expected) and Huckabee seems to have done better than
expected. However, it does not appear
that the GOP nomination will be decided tonight.
I’m
listening to Hillary Clinton giving a speech. With the
proportional distribution of delegates favored by the Democrats, their
nomination will almost certainly not be decided any time soon.
I’ll
be signing off for the night. Be sure to
check AdvanceUSA Blog for more election coverage as well as coverage of the
conservative issues so important to our nation.
