The AP reports on the latest assault on traditional marriage in the guise of “marriage equality” though same-sex civil unions. Starting January 1, New Hampshire began conducting and recognizing same-sex civil unions for homosexual partners.
Marriage is the crucial foundation of a civilized society and ought to be an important issue in presidential politics. Let’s hope the voters in New Hampshire take the marriage issue into consideration when they head to the polls on Tuesday, January 8 during their “first-in-the-nation” presidential primary.
If you want to find out where the major presidential candidates stand on marriage check out AdvanceUSA’s 2008 Candidate Comparisons.
LifeNews reports on this difficult situation. Once again, starving a person in a coma is being advocated in the name of compassion and convenience.

We’ve learned that the Republican Party of Iowa website will be the first source to relay who the Iowa GOP selects. Also, it appears this website sponsored by the Democrat Party of Iowa will have up-to-date information on the caucus results for Democrats in Iowa. These websites should be great resources for the most timely information and for Americans outside Iowa who would like to read about how the caucus process works.

On Friday, check back with AdvanceUSA to see which candidates won the important Iowa caucuses.
For more information on where the major candidates of both parties stand on important conservative issues, check AdvanceUSA’s new 2008 Candidate Comparisons.

UPDATE: Unfortunately the resources above
are not as helpful as they were promoted. Check the Iowa
Votes 2008 website for the final results for both parties, or check our January 4 blog post.
LifeNews reports. Excerpt:
Statisticians at Virginia Commonwealth
University have released
the results of their annual poll in scientific research and found that more
Americans favor non-embryonic stem cell research than the kind that destroys
human life. The poll also finds that Americans are strongly opposed to human
cloning.
We don’t often emphasize state issues here at AdvanceUSA unless they portend of things to come on the national level or across the country. The radically pro-homosexual education bills recently passed by the California legislature and signed into law by Governor Schwarzenegger pose such a threat.
This CitizenLink article talks about the grassroots effort to overturn the homosexual indoctrination bills, or you can visit the Save Our Kids website for more information.
LifeNews reports. Excerpt:
Both the House and Senate have approved resolutions
honoring former Congressman Henry Hyde, a pro-life champion known for making
sure thousands of abortions annually were not financed with taxpayer funds. The
Congressional chambers approved the motions on a voice vote.
A
same-sex couple hoping to spread Massachusetts’
“gay marriage” laws to other states are insisting on getting a “divorce” in Rhode Island where
same-sex marriage is not recognized. The Boston Globe reports that the
couple is appealing their case after the RI Supreme Court ruled against
them (as reported here
at AdvanceUSA Blog recently).
Ryan
Anderson, in a post at First Things, exposes media
distortion of the recent ethical stem cell breakthrough in the New York
Times. He also shares this excellent quote from Japanese stem cell
researcher Dr. Shinya Yamanaka.
“When I saw the embryo, I suddenly realized there was such
a small difference between it and my daughters,” said Dr. Yamanaka, 45, a
father of two and now a professor at the Institute for Integrated Cell-Material
Sciences at Kyoto
University. “I thought,
we can’t keep destroying embryos for our research. There must be another way.”

The LA
Times reports on this outrageous
story of gay adoption. Excerpt:
Chad and David's attempt to bring a
child into the world involved a woman they barely knew. After fertilizing her
eggs in vitro using both men's sperm, another woman would carry the resulting
embryos to term. They had no idea whose DNA would carry the day.

AdvanceUSA
is happy to report that the crucial
Mexico City Policy is safe for now (this policy prevents taxpayer dollars
from supporting overseas abortions). The massive omnibus spending bill
facing Congress does not hinder or undermine this crucial pro-life
policy. LifeNews reports here.
Also, our
friends at Heritage Foundation have created an online
blog resource that tracks all the spending, earmarks, and budget issues
contained in the omnibus bill. Check it out at www.Omnibusting.com.
KWMU
reports. Excerpt:
"Somatic
cell nuclear transfer is the process for cloning, and if you somatic cell
nuclear transfer with a human, which has not viably been done, then that's human
cloning," said Winship. "And human cloning in any avenue for any purpose is
wrong," she adds.
Winship
and her group are trying to fill that loophole by putting another question on
the November 2008 ballot. And they're using this latest development to prove
that SCNT is no longer necessary.
Matt
Barber today takes a closer look
at the landmark Roe vs. Wade decision. Even many pro-lifers don’t fully comprehend
its implications. Excerpt:
It's not at all surprising that what public support there
is for Roe v. Wade is typically rooted in a lack of knowledge. Ignorance is
bliss, and blissful ignorance relative to Roe is by design. It's intentionally
fueled through obfuscation and disinformation, fostered by pro-abortion
activists and other like-minded leftists. Polls show conclusively that the more
people learn about Roe v. Wade, the less likely they are to support it.
We
applaud Barber for this article and encourage our readers to make sure they
know the truth about Roe so they can inform their fellow citizens.
As the Washington Times reports,
Students for Life obtained video of a speech by Dr. Alberto Hodari at Wayne State University in Michigan. His lecture was sponsored by the group
Medical Students for Choice and was titled "Why I Am An Abortion Provider."
In the
video (linked below) Hodari brags “I have great satisfaction of what I do, and
I never feel bad or worried about doing abortions.” Later in the video the abortion doctor
confesses that he rarely washes his hands between abortions and tells the
students they have “a right to lie” when it comes to abortion.
To see
the full video click here. LifeNews reports on this appalling story
as well. Excerpt:
Hodari also spoke about how little he washed between
abortions because it chafed his hands, even though his doing so puts women's
health at risk.
Most upsetting to SFLA director Kristan Hawkins is
Hodari's claim that being an abortion practitioner gives him "license to
lie" to women who seek him out for abortions. HT: Students for Life of America
Proponents
of a state
constitutional amendment protecting marriage in Florida achieved a victory
yesterday. Excerpt from news article:
Floridians will vote in November on a constitutional
amendment to protect traditional marriage after the initiative apparently
surpassed on Dec. 12 the 611,009 requirement for qualified petitions to put the
proposal before voters in 2008.
FRC has posted the video of each major Republican
candidate’s speech at the Values Voter Summit held in DC in October. The Democrat candidates were invited but
declined to attend. The candidates
gathered, in effect, to give their best sales pitches on why values voters
should support them. We hope this
resource will be helpful to values voters who are seeking to determine which
candidate best represents their values.
