The
House just
passed a plan by Speaker Boehner (R-OH) that increases the debt ceiling by
about $1 Trillion and claims to cut spending by the same amount. A vote on a Balanced Budget Amendment to the
Constitution was added
to the plan to get recalcitrant Republicans on board.
Fiscal
conservatives still seem divided over whether passing the Boehner plan was the
best that could be done with a Democrat controlled Senate and White House or a
betrayal of Tea Party, limited government principles.
Now
the Senate must decide if it will give the measure a fair up-or-down vote. Senate Democrats have threatened to block the
bill. While President Obama and Democrat
leaders have been demanding “compromise,” Republican Leader Sen. McConnell says
Democrats
have no plan.
